I never thought I'd do this again.

Yesterday I went down to the local public university and enrolled in the late-Fall half semester. Three short term intensive courses. Classes start tomorrow.

I'm a college student.

I went walking around campus. Do you remember that Star Trek episode where everyone ages backwards? Well, today's students don't remember Star Trek at all. Also they seem to have gotten about twenty years younger than they were last time I was a student. They're all fresh-faced and youthy.

Some of the professors have gray hair, so I'll still look like I fit in with somebody.

There's nothing technical on my schedule but I still gravitated toward the science and engineering departments. Now I have notes on the math and tech seminar schedules so I can visit. There seem to be a lot more young ladies around the mathy bits than I recall; I'm glad to see the exponents of aggressive recruitment turned out to be right about that.

Frisbees flew and people were studying under the sun on the grassy central quad. People rolled about on bicycles. It all felt like an exotic place I thought I'd never see again.

So basically you felt a great deal like Buffy in Life Serial ? Hoping you do much better than Ms. Summers.

Maybe it was just the sobriety getting to me.

good for you! I've been thinking of doing the same thing, but haven't quite gotten that brave.

Aside from the placement exam and the unspeakable thing they did to my credit card, it was completely painless.

Lit, lang, and art. Easier stuff. I'm not that eager to go back to pop quizzes where I have to prove some new obscure theorem about calculating contour integrals on fields of imaginary numbers yet.

That sounds like boatloads of fun, especially the art course. Do post occasionally about your adventures so I can live vicariously.

I'll try to live a sufficiently interesting life to have something to post about, then.

My husband went back to school in September and I am kind of envious. Although I do get you about the age thing...I work at a high school writing centre 1.5 days a week and I often can't tell the students from the teachers. *g*

I'm going to have to get used to some of the profs being my age. At least there are still a few grad students who are even older than I am; it makes me feel like not so much of an outlier.

Yeah, it's quite a thing after half a lifetime. My best wishes to him, too.
