I never thought I'd do this again.
Yesterday I went down to the local public university and enrolled in the late-Fall half semester. Three short term intensive courses. Classes start tomorrow.
I'm a college student.
I went walking around campus. Do you remember that Star Trek episode where everyone ages backwards? Well, today's students don't remember Star Trek at all. Also they seem to have gotten about twenty years younger than they were last time I was a student. They're all fresh-faced and youthy.
Some of the professors have gray hair, so I'll still look like I fit in with somebody.
There's nothing technical on my schedule but I still gravitated toward the science and engineering departments. Now I have notes on the math and tech seminar schedules so I can visit. There seem to be a lot more young ladies around the mathy bits than I recall; I'm glad to see the exponents of aggressive recruitment turned out to be right about that.
Frisbees flew and people were studying under the sun on the grassy central quad. People rolled about on bicycles. It all felt like an exotic place I thought I'd never see again.
